About Michael J. Worth

Michael J. Worth is Professor of Nonprofit Management in the School of Public Policy and Public Administration at The George Washington University in Washington, DC. He teaches related to the governance and management of nonprofit organizations, fund raising and philanthropy, and nonprofit enterprise. He served as Vice President for Development and Alumni Affairs at The George Washington University for eighteen years and previously as Director of Development at the University of Maryland, College Park for seven years. Dr. Worth has been a frequent speaker at conferences of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), and the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges (AGB). He has served as a member of CASE's Commission on Philanthropy, as Special Consultant to the President of CASE for Executive Education, as Editor of the CASE International Journal of Educational Advancement, and as a faculty member at the Harvard Institutes for Higher Education. He consults with educational institutions and nonprofit organizations in the areas of fund raising management, board development, and strategic planning. In addition to numerous articles and reviews, Dr. Worth has written or edited four books, including Public College and University Development (1985), The Role of the Development Officer in Higher Education (Jossey-Bass 1994, 2000), Educational Fund Raising: Principles and Practice (Oryx Press,1993), New Strategies for Educational Fund Raising, (American Council on Education and Praeger Publishers, 2002), and Fund-Raising Leadership (Association of Governing Boards, 2005).
