Description of Calamitous Caravanning |
After relating my many experiences to friends, relatives and other campers, I was inspired to write this book covering the period from 1972 to 1984, when my family spent a number of eventful holidays touring with our caravan both at home and abroad. This is not a manual on caravanning, nor is it a book of tips on getting the best out of it. If anything it is a guide of what not to do, although the point is simply to let you know how we got on, and for you to have a good laugh at our expense. Everyone who has ever toured with a caravan has a story to tell and we are no exception. Despite facing problems which could have had serious consequences, we now look back on those ‘good old days’ and see the funny side. Some of it was down to bad planning, some just bad luck and some down to a cavalier attitude. Catastrophic, unbelievable, hilarious, extraordinary and weird are words that spring to mind — it made an impact on us all and we frequently refer back to those eventful times, usually concluding with us all rolling on the floor in uncontrollable hysterics.
