Description of Clement Davies

This is a thorough biography of post-war Liberal Party leader, Clement Davies. The book looks at his early escapades as well as his later career and personal life.

Clement Davies led the Liberal Party from 1945 to 1956 when he was succeeded by Jo Grimond. The roots of the Liberal revival under Grimond were planted during Clement Davies's leadership. Before he became party leader he had played a critical role in the replacement of Chamberlain by Churchill as Prime Minister in May 1940. He also truned down an offer of a Cabinet post in Churchill's 1951 Government. His life was full of personal tragedy. The author has had exclusive access to his papers and full co-operation from the Davies family.
