  • While I don't agree with Taylor on a number of issues, I admire his fact-based approach to look at received wisdom with fresh eyes. His arguments are very persuasive that Lehman's collapse was not, in fact, the trigger of the deterioration of the financial crisis in September 2008. Looking at the effects of government interventions dispassionately is another area where his fact-based approach is enlightening. I could not agree more with Taylor's warning that many ad hoc changes to the regulation of financial services look unrelated to the real causes and at risk of having serious unintended consequences. But most of all I admire Taylor's efforts to defend the capitalist model and orthodox economics when so many other pundits are willing to throw out the baby with the bath water. Taylor's lucid and concise writing is among the best I have read about the credit crunch.
